Counting Birds & Facebook

I wanted to buy a memory from Berlin for Aaron so I bought the Counting Birds- book. I love the illustrations by Alice Melvin.This one was available at Hamburger Bahnhof museum shop.

The facebook is for me. It´s a perfect notebook for work. Bought from Pomeranza, Raumerstrasse 19.

Berlin- shops, cafes and other places worth visiting

Here´s a hip kids shop we found. Mia Mohnstreusel is selling many cool brands, mainly Danish. I bought a striped balaclava for Aaron, by Melton. It makes him look like some cute little imp. That was the only piece of clothing I bought for him from Berlin. Anyway this shop was worth visiting but you must visit it with time- there´s so much of everything.

We popped in a cafe and it turned out to be the same cafe I visited with my friend last time in Berlin (around 6 years ago). It is still as beautiful as before. It is called Al Hamra and it´s situated at Prenzlauer Berg, Raumerstr. 16. At the same street there were plenty of nice trendy shops and cafes-  unfortunately the majority of them were closed while we were there.

Madame Jordan sells handmade kids clothes at Lychener Straße 8. Her work room is there right in the shop and she offered to sew boys pants of the right size for us. I didn´t buy anything this time but she was selling noticeably beautiful things - although most of them were for girls.

The cafe Manolo at Schönhauser Allee 45 offered the best breakfast ever. Everything we ordered was smashing delicious. I especially loved the hot chocolate made of white chocolate.

 

We were adviced to visit the Museum of Technology. It was one of the best museums I have ever visited and there was so much to see that one and a half hour wasn´t enough at all. Kids seemed to enjoy it a lot and no wonder why- there were plenty of things they can try and do themselves. I will definitely take Aaron back there when he grows older.

art'otel Berlin and some other art stuff too.

We stayed at art´otel Mitte during our visit to Berlin. The hotel displays the art of Georg Baselitz as in a gallery. There where huge signed prints in the lobby and some smaller ones in hotel rooms. Although I´m not huge fan of Baselitz (I went to see his exhibition in Helsinki some time ago. I like of his way to use colours but otherwise- not my piece of cake) I find the idea very cool. We chose this hotel for it´s location. There are two other art´otels in Berlin- the artists are Andy Warhol and Wolf Vostell.

Aaron enjoyed watching out from the big windows. The very Berlin-like view was not the most beautiful though.

 

Because of not staying at the Andy Warhol themed hotel I needed to visit the Museum for Contemporary Art, Hamburger Bahnhof to see some original paintings by Warhol. I love his work and always try to visit art museums on my travels to see his work. 

There was also an interesting exhibition about drawings of oriental scenes and people by Else Lasker-Schüler.

I also loved the room full of paintings on blue. And the long corridor with exit-signs.
